2012 RELI 106: Prayer, Meditation, Trance Ecstasy:A Study of the Techniques of Spiritual Transformation
This paper explores religion through the things that people do. It considers how spiritual practices – rituals, bodily postures, song, altered states of consciousness, and music – are used to shape individual and collective experience.
We also examine debates over methods appropriate to the study of religion.
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to religion as an important and fascinating human phenomenon. It is also an introduction to some of the prominent methods that define the discipline of religious studies.
